Kumeu River, Auckland
"...an Auckland pearl…"Jancis Robinson
There are not too many New World Chardonnay producers confident enough to submit their wines for a blind tasting against top white Burgundy. But Kumeu River, is one of them, and their Chardonnays frequently come up winners against some of the greatest Pulignys and Meursaults . Michael Brajkovich MW is the head winemaker at this family-run estate and is a master of yeast work in the cellar. All the Chardonnays are fermented in oak using indigenous yeasts that exist in the wine cellar, and are rather long-lived.
